A Cat Among the Pigeons and Crocodile Tears

Here are two more idiom drawing/paintings from last week:

I mounted them on panels that I'd coated with a deep, dark blue acrylic mix.  Then I glued the paintings onto the panels with matte medium.  Once the matte medium had dried a little, I coated the painting with two coats of a thin, watered-down layer of matte medium.  The matte medium securely fixes the watercolor and gouache, and should give the piece some UV protection as well.  You just have to be very careful to spray fix the painting before you apply that top coat, and then be very, very careful and gentle as you brush the gel on top.  Otherwise the gouache will smear like crazy.  When that happens I just touch up the painting with some acrylic.

The cradled panels give the work a nice dimension... different from the boxes. However, I am completely at a loss with the idioms today!

I think the banners trailing off the sides goes well with the idioms not being stated. That is a very handsome crocodile.

I LOVE these idiom paintings! And those crocodile's shoes-- fantastic! (Thank you for not having him wear crocs. Ick.)

This isn't actually a comment, so you may want to remove it. It's a question, about teeny tiny art thing- which is simultaneous with enormous tiny art, also in Portsmouth - I guess some of the galleries in Portsmouth do simultaneous art around themes - I am just wondering if there are rules about submitting to one show only? Have called both galleries, and they don't answer their phones. Anyway, if you have time to answer this, my email is in my profile...
